How Technology Is Causing The Decline Of Morality

Every year, machines and the technology that builds them are advancing at an irreversible rate that we cannot control. It is speculated that we will reach singularity during the 21st century, and with advances like cloning, society’s morality begins to be questioned. The film Blade Runner and short story â€Å"Margin of Error† bring up questions of morality related to technology, and I will use these works as reference to strengthen my arguments. The continuous evolution of technology is causing the decline of morality in society. You do not have to look into the future to witness the effects of technology on morality, in fact you can look around the world today. The introduction of the internet for example, brought a whole new test to morality, because now humans were given the ability to communicate to an audience of millions, and had the power to do it anonymously. New issues in society began to rise like online child pornography, cyber-bullying, and other immoral ac ts. The internet also is infamous for having the ability for anyone to upload anything, including false information that can be taken as truth. Deceit contradicts the moral value of truth, and the internet is helping fuel these lies. Television is an even older example of technology negatively affecting society’s morals.
